Dental Implants
A Dental Implant is an Artificial Tooth Root
At City Quay Dental Clinic and Implant Centre, we have placed over 3000 implants.
A dental implant is a small post made of titanium which our implant dentist places strategically in the jawbone as a replacement for the missing natural tooth root. Our practice uses implants made of premium-grade titanium; it is a material that is generally well-tolerated by the human body, and evidence shows that bone bonds well to titanium — an essential component of the healing process.
Implants can be surgically inserted under local anaesthetic on an outpatient basis. Once healed, the artificial root acts as a base for fixing individual crowns and multi-tooth bridges. The implant can also anchor dental prostheses, such as implant-supported dentures.
Are You a Candidate for Dental Implants?
Dental implants are restorations that become a permanent part of your smile. Our patients opt for dental implants because we provide them with world-class solutions for their missing teeth, making this treatment as much a cosmetic service as a restoration. Implants are currently the only solution we have that replaces your missing teeth with artificial teeth that look and function like natural teeth. Additionally, implants are the only solution we have that will not damage the adjacent teeth.

An Overview of Dental Implant Treatment
To assume the function of the tooth root, we insert the dental implant into the jawbone while you are under local anaesthetic. This surgery is a routine outpatient procedure that the implant team at City Quay performs frequently. Once placed, the implant knits painlessly with the bone, thus forming a solid basis for the long-term and stable fixation of the restoration.

Implants in Various Situations
Missing Single Tooth
When we place a single implant, we attach a bespoke crown once it heals. In this instance, grinding the neighbouring teeth is unnecessary, which preserves your healthy tooth substance.
The crown must fulfil its natural function when eating or articulating, but it should also be indistinguishable in appearance from the neighbouring teeth, especially in the front. At City Quay Dental Practice and Implant Centre, we always strive for an attractive, functional result.
A single implant does more than merely provide a complete smile. The implant takes over the function of the tooth root and transmits the chewing force from the tooth crown to the jaw bone. This natural stress keeps the jaw bone vital, so it does not atrophy.
Fixed implant-borne teeth look and feel like your own teeth as the implant, crown, and gums form a harmonious unit.

Completely Toothless Jaw
Implant dentistry offers removable prostheses and non-removable rows of teeth to restore completely toothless jaws. The advantages of these two solutions compared to classical adhesive dentures speak for themselves. Prostheses on implants offer a secure hold in any situation, and the chewing forces transmit to the bone. This force prevents bone atrophy and thus ensures optimal prosthesis fit in the long term.
There are no painful pressure points with implant-anchored prostheses, and the palate remains free from prosthesis material. The sense of taste and, thus, enjoyment of eating are not impaired.
The most attractive-looking solution for toothless jaws is a row of teeth fixed with screws. It is fixed directly to the implants and usually ends harmoniously at the gums.
